NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE · NORTH EAST · UKSearch, AI visibility and growth built around real customer journeys.
AEO · ANSWER ENGINE OPTIMISATION

Answer the question before the customer has to hunt for it.

AEO structures useful content so a person - and systems that retrieve passages - can quickly understand the answer, the evidence behind it and the next logical question.

01Direct answers

Put a concise, accurate answer close to the question.

02Question journeys

Cover the follow-up questions a real buyer asks next.

03Evidence

Support important claims instead of writing generic filler.

04Structure

Use headings, entities and internal links to make meaning clear.

THE PRACTICAL GUIDE

Built to answer the question properly - not pad out a keyword page.

Use the sections below as a working framework. Each one explains what matters, what I would inspect, and how it connects to commercial visibility.

01

What AEO actually means

AEO is an information-design discipline: answer important questions clearly, then give the user enough evidence and context to act.

A strong answer block is self-contained without being simplistic. It usually begins with a descriptive heading, gives the direct answer, then expands into process, limitations, examples and related decisions.

Good AEO

Useful to the person even if no AI system ever cites it.

02

Question and intent mapping

I map questions by the stage of the decision rather than publishing hundreds of tiny question pages.

Early questions establish the problem. Comparison questions help people choose an approach. Decision-stage questions deal with suitability, process, risk, cost where verifiable, and what happens next.

  • What is the problem?
  • Why is it happening?
  • What are my options?
  • Which option fits my situation?
  • What should I expect next?
03

Passage-level clarity

Each important section should make sense on its own while still belonging to a coherent page.

Descriptive headings, short direct answers, definitions, lists and contextual links make long pages easier to scan. This also gives retrieval systems cleaner passages to interpret without turning the page into robotic Q&A.

04

AEO, schema and FAQs

Visible FAQs can improve page completeness, but markup should follow current search-feature support rather than outdated SEO recipes.

I keep FAQs visible and genuinely useful. Structured data is added only when appropriate and supported. FAQ rich results were deprecated by Google in 2026, so the value of FAQs here is the content itself: answering real follow-up questions, improving clarity and supporting long-tail relevance.

HOW I WORK

From diagnosis to measurable improvement.

No mystery deliverables. The work is broken into clear stages.

01

Research

Collect customer questions from search behaviour, sales conversations and service objections.

02

Cluster

Group related questions into substantial pages and sections.

03

Write

Lead with direct answers, then add evidence, nuance and useful next steps.

04

Connect

Use internal links and semantic relationships to build a coherent knowledge system.

FAQ

Questions worth answering before you invest.

Visible, useful answers for people - not hidden FAQ filler.

Is AEO different from SEO?

AEO overlaps with SEO but focuses more specifically on answer structure, passage clarity, entities and the follow-up questions people or answer systems need resolved.

Does AEO guarantee a featured snippet or AI citation?

No. Search and AI platforms choose what they display. AEO improves clarity and usefulness; it cannot guarantee selection.

Should every FAQ be a separate page?

No. Create a standalone page only when the topic deserves substantial unique treatment. Related questions usually belong together on a strong hub or service page.

Are FAQs still useful if Google no longer shows FAQ rich results?

Yes. Visible FAQs can still help users, cover genuine long-tail questions and make a page more complete. They should not be added merely for obsolete rich-result markup.
